“Gedichte und Balladen” by Karl Altmutter is a reflection of its time, dating from 1955 and preserved as part of his literary estate. It is a newly produced edition of a book more than 70 years old, originally self-published by the author.
Published only five years after the Second World War, the book offers an insight into the timeless depths of the human soul.
It also offers a glimpse into a time when the wounds of Nazi rule and the war were still raw. Eastern Austria was under Soviet occupation, yet the future was filled with hope.
The author is no stranger to either pathos or humor.
